Cold water immersion therapy is a popular recovery strategy used by athletes with the aim to enhance recovery after strenuous exercise. But it’s also becoming a popular remedy for recovery in the mainstream. There have been numerous research studies that have shown the short-term benefits of cold-water immersion post exercise. These benefits include faster recovery of:
Muscle strength
Muscle soreness
Fatigue
Muscle damage
Inflammatory markers
Research suggests that cold water immersion reduced some indicators of exercise-induced muscle damage.

Improved immunity

It was back in 1996 that a study by Janský et al., found that cold water immersion three times per week for six weeks could activate some immune cells by increasing the body’s metabolic rate. The stress that cold water therapy puts your body under is likely to be the reason immersion can improve immunity. That’s because exposure to low temperatures causes the body to shiver, raising the metabolic rate and stimulating the immune system.

Super snoozes

Ice bathing boosts the body’s production of melatonin, a hormone that plays a key role in your sleep-wake cycle. Natural levels are at their peak at night, helping you to drift off and lowest in the morning, enabling you to wake up and face the day. Some studies have shown that immersion for 10 minutes before bed after evening exercise, results in deeper sleep during the first three hours and individuals were less likely to wake up during the night.

Feel energised

Immersion in cold water induces a process called thermogenesis where exposure to cold water stimulates the nerve endings in your skin, resulting in increased oxygen levels, heart rate and respiration rate. This combination helps to boost your energy levels, getting you over that mid-afternoon slump.

Happy mood

That’s right - immersing yourself in cold water is great for your mind. The therapy stimulates the release of norepinephrine, a hormone and transmitter that plays a key role in your body’s fight or flight response. But it’s also a feel-good molecule. So, brief exposure to cold water increases the production of norepinephrine as well as dopamine which can improve your mood and turn that frown upside down.

Yes! The bottom of the ice bath is triple layered PVC with 5mm pearl foam to keep the temperature of the water suitably cool. The walls and lid of the bath are also insulated, so the external temperature won’t affect the ambient water temperature.

It takes just five minutes to fully inflate the recovery ice bath.

The recovery ice bath holds 400 litres of water when filled to the top.
